Second round grades
- Raptors: Jonathan Mogbo, Grade B+, Ranked 44, Mogbo is a very unique player and Toronto is a great place for him to find the right role.
- Jazz: Kyle Fillipowski, Grade B-, Ranked 32, Could be a valuable bench player, but that’s all he can be in Utah, especially if they keep their front-court intact.
- Bucks: Tyler Smith, Grade A, Ranked 21, After making the biggest reach in the first round, they turn around and take the best player available in the second, a first round talent that slipped into the early second round. He will provide great depth for the Bucks.
- Knicks: Tyler Kolek, Grade A-, Ranked 38, A solid point guard, Knicks obtain a valuable bench piece to help out their loaded roster.
- Pacers: Johnny Furphy, Grade B, Ranked 33, Great shooter, will need to develop more of an all around skill set in order to minutes.
- Spurs: Juan Nunez, Grade B, Ranked 51, Should develop into reliable backup, but will probably start out as an international stash or their third string point guard.
- Pistons: Bobi Klintman, Grade B, Ranked 34, High potential player that’s great to take a swing on, but Pistons need to find shooters and Klintman is still working on his outside shot.
- Thunder: Ajay Mitchell, Grade B-, Ranked 45, If his shot is really as good as it showed this past season, he could be a great value player, but how many point guards do the Thunder need?
- Grizzlies: Jaylen Wells, Grade B+, Ranked 43, Great shooter, could find minutes on a team lacking many great options at small forward.
- Suns: Osasere Ighodaro, Grade A-, Ranked 56, A player with a unique skill set, it was hard to see him working in most situations. Phoenix may be one of the best spots Ighodaro could land.
- 76ers: Adem Bona, Grade A-, Ranked 46, As a backup, Bona will bring a spark of energy while Embiid sits.
- Hornets: KJ Simpson, Grade C+, Ranked 37, Hornets have drafted another small guard, one year after drafting Nick Smith and months after releasing James Bouknight. This is why I’m skeptical of the pick.
- Hawks: Nikola Djurisic, Grade A, Ranked 22, Hawks land a versatile prospect that impressed at the combine. He will need to work on his shot to remain in the league though.
- Heat: Pelle Larson, Grade B+, Ranked 36, Knockdown shooter and good defender. Should be a be a great three-and-D player.
- Raptors: Jamal Shead, Grade B, Ranked 39, Shead works hard and can become a great backup point guard.
- Clippers: Cam Christie, Grade A-, Ranked 42, High ceiling player, Christie can already be a valuable three-and-D player alongside the stars in LA, but if he can learn to score inside, he can be a really good player.
- Pelicans: Antonio Reeves, Grade B, Ranked 54, Pelicans get a solid scorer in the second round that may can help their bench unit sooner than later.
- Spurs: Harrison Ingram, Grade A-, Ranked 49, If his shot is real, this will be a steal. Needs to work on shot making at the rim.
- Pacers: Tristen Newton, Grade B, Ranked 55, Good defender and shows promise with his outside shot.
- Pacers: Enrique Freeman, Grade B+, Ranked 50, Best individual story in the draft, may need time to develop though.
- Mavericks: Melvin Ajinca, Grade A, Ranked 23, Mavericks were able to move up and get a great value pick in Ajinca. If he continues to improve his shot and works on his passing, he can be a very valuable three-and-D player.
- Warriors: Quinten Post, Grade B-, Unranked, Post can be a valuable stretch big, but needs to work on the rest of his game.
- Grizzlies: Cam Spencer, Grade B, Ranked 59, He can come in and space the floor, with the earlier Wells pick, Grizzlies are definitely valuing spacing in the second round.
- Celtics: Anton Watson, Grade B, Unranked, Watson is an eager defender that can also hit from the outside. Shouldn’t be asked to do more than that in Boston.
- Lakers: Bronny James, Grade C, Unranked, The pick may be overhyped, but congrats to Bronny and his dad for linking up and having the chance to play together. It’s a great accomplishment and may not be seen again for a long time, if ever.
- Knicks: Kevin McCullar, Grade B, Ranked 40, He is as ready as they come in the draft, but his shot is questionable and his ceiling is not high. The Knicks don’t need a home run pick though, just someone to come in and do their job. McCaullar can be that guy.
- Raptors: Ulrich Chomche, Grade A, Ranked 35, I love his upside, but he is very raw. Raptors have the time to develop him and could have came away with a very valuable player.
- Knicks: Ariel Hukporti, Grade B-, Unranked, Knicks will probably stash him, but he could be an interesting front court piece for the future.
